Mary Calvert, M.A., Pediatric Speech-language Pathologist

Mary is a pediatric speech therapist with a B.A. in Elementary Education who has owned her private practice since 1988. Before private practice, she worked at Children's National Medical Center, Hearing and Speech Center, Washington D.C. While at CNMC, she provided evaluation and therapy and was the coordinator of speech therapy for the CNMC school and a consultant in the Learning Disabilities Clinic. Mary's extensive experience also includes classroom teaching for children with severe language delays ranging in age from preschool to high school with Los Angeles Country Schools. She has devoted her life to balancing raising her two sons with her passion for helping children with speech and language delays.

David encouraged his mother, Mary, to share her extensive knowledge through this brilliant book series. When he isn’t skiing or surfing, he coaches company founders and advises start-ups on ways to grow and thrive.

Illustrator

Sharon Lockwood, Ph.D., Retired Pediatric Speech-language Pathologist, currently painting full-time.

Dr. Lockwood’s speech-language career has spanned over fifty years. She was on the clinical staff and Director of Speech-Language Services at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, followed by twenty years in her pediatric private practice. Now retired, her passion for art has led to illustrating the delightful and essential concepts in Bailey Speaks!
